Hassan Khawaja, MD

Biography:

Dr Hassan Abbas Khawaja completed fellowships with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery when cosmetic surgery was in its infancy. He was certified by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and learned the art of cosmetic surgery from pioneers in the field, including Julius Newman, Enrique Hernandez-Perez, Larry Schoenrock, and Pierre Fournier. Dr Khawaja later became a world leader in cosmetic surgery and pioneered several simplified techniques such as transcutaneous face lift, delta-lift, percutaneous eyebrow lift, suture nasal tip lift, silk threads for wrinkles and scars, and superficial liposuction for permanent hair removal. His work in minimally invasive procedures, including simplified rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty, transcutaneous platysmal band correction, penile enhancement using fillers, and lipo-dermo-sculpture has been published in leading cosmetic surgery journals and as book chapters. Some of his exceptional contributions in aesthetic surgery and medicine include describing facial nerve branch variations, Khawaja’s communicating nerves, and describing the superficial musculoaponeurotic fatty system (SMAFS). Dr Khawaka also described the use of oral isotretinoin as a cutaneous anti-aging drug. He has contributed to several textbooks, including Simplfieid Facial Rejuvenation, Liposuction: Principles and Practice, Autologous Fat Transfer, and Body Contouring, and authored Simplified Cosmetic Surgery: Art, Science, and Practice. He is a founding member of the Meso-American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and sits on the editorial board of the Meso-American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery. He is director of the Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Center, Lahore, Pakistan.
